Shadow Over the Nentir Vale
Cyrus Ancelot was an orphan found by a group of dwarf scouts in the Horned Hills. The child had been hidden away in the wreckage of a small nameless village, the unfortunate target of a gnoll raid. The dwarves saw that the home had been defended by a brave man who had slain several gnolls before falling, so they honored the warrior’s memory by rescuing and raising the child. The only memento taken for the child was the cerulean-hued sword that was in the hands of the child’s guardian. Etched on the length of the blade was the surname “Ancelot”.
He was taught the knacks of being a scout, both underground and in the hills around his new home city, Turak-tol. He was often the butt of jokes, laughed at for not being able to grow a beard and heckled for his poor perception in the tunnels. Cyrus did not let this set him back and was always quick with a retort. His hard-skinned yet jovial attitude was most welcome amongst his kin. When he came of age, the dwarves offered him a place in their clan, but Cyrus refused. He took the name Ancelot to honor the memory of the man that died defending his life. He decided to travel the world and make a name for himself, so that tales could be told of him like those sung in the mead hall about the Heroes of the Nentir Vale, Vendar the Dragonslayer, and King Kelvin. His only companion in this would be his dear friend Dargor. The two left the mountains and journeyed the world in search of good tales and good ale.
Their trek has brought them to the village of Stasi, where they have taken on a job from the town’s Magier to rescue two missing children. It didn’t sound like the greatest tale, but ever epic has its beginning. That, and one hundred gold would go a long way in food and drink.
